Workshop using Ink, Gold Leaf and Oil Paint
Beginners and Experienced painters are welcome to attend
6 participants maximum for this ‘semi-private’ course
Fee: $300 for the 2 days
In preparation for The Art of Balance Tour to Japan in April 2019 I am presenting this workshop in the beautiful and delicate Japanese art of Kano.
During this 2 day workshop we will produce a few small compositional sketches on paper in preparation for our major painting.
On the first day we will apply the gold leaf over the complete width and breadth of our canvas or board (size should be on the larger scale).
Once this is complete we will ‘lightly’ outline our ‘simple design’ composition on top of the gold leaf covered surface.
We will then block in area’s with a light covering of ink and follow through with oil paint.
“The Kano school was the longest lived and most influential school of painting in Japanese history; its more than 300-year prominence is unique in world art history. Working from the fifteenth century into modern times, this hereditary assemblage of professional, secular painters succeeded in attracting numerous patrons from the most affluent social classes by developing, mastering, and promoting a broad range of painting styles.” (Department of Asian Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art October 2003)
